Learn how Profhilo compares to Dermal Fillers, Sculptra, Polynucleotides and Sunekos to improve skin texture, laxity, and hydration.
It’s exciting to see just how far the world of aesthetics has come from simply addressing wrinkles. Now, we’re able to improve skin texture, hydration, and overall appearance thanks to an ever-evolving range of advanced injectables. From fillers and skin boosters to bio-stimulators and polynucleotides, each treatment offers unique benefits.
However, with so many treatments now available, it’s easy for patients (especially new ones) to become overwhelmed when deciding what’s best for your skin.
One treatment that’s gained significant attention due to its unique formulation and ability to bio-remodel the skin without adding volume is Profhilo. While traditional fillers restore lost volume and skin boosters optimize overall skin health, Profhilo takes a slightly different path. It works on a deeper level to really encourage your skin's natural elasticity and firmness. Profhilo also contributes to hydration, but its primary focus is on that underlying support structure.
Let's take a closer look at what makes this treatment stand out.
Profhilo isn’t a filler, a skin booster, or a collagen-stimulating injectable. It’s considered a bio-remodeller, and is truly in a league of its own. With one of the highest concentrations of stabilised hyaluronic acid available, it works differently from traditional injectables. Unlike fillers, which stay in specific areas to add volume, Profhilo spreads beneath the skin, deeply hydrating and stimulating collagen and elastin production.
Once injected, it disperses naturally, encouraging fibroblasts – the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin – to kick into action. The results are enhanced skin texture, firmness, and smoothness that leaves your complexion looking naturally refreshed and brighter. Over time, your skin becomes healthier, tighter, more hydrated, and more resilient to aging, without any risk of an overdone or unnatural appearance.
When it comes to injectables, Dermal Fillers are usually the first thing people think of. They’re designed to restore lost volume, contour the face, and soften wrinkles. Dermal fillers stay in specific areas, providing lift and structure where needed – like plumping lips, lifting cheeks, or defining the jawline.
Profhilo, on the other hand, doesn’t add volume. Instead, it spreads beneath the skin, triggering collagen production and deep hydration for a more refined, rejuvenated look. While fillers help with lift, structure, and contouring, Profhilo is all about improving skin laxity, boosting hydration, and enhancing overall skin quality.
If you’re concerned about hollow cheeks or deep wrinkles, fillers may be the better choice. But if your skin is starting to feel thin or dehydrated, Profhilo is ideal for restoring elasticity and youthfulness.
Bio-stimulators like Sculptra work quite differently from Profhilo. Instead of using hyaluronic acid, they contain collagen-stimulating compounds that gradually restore volume and skin thickness over time. Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid, which encourages your body to produce collagen types I and III, leading to a slow and natural lifting and volumising effect.
While Sculptra is great for treating significant volume loss, it doesn’t provide the deep hydration that Profhilo does. The results take up to 6 weeks to appear, as the body needs time to stimulate new collagen. However, they tend to last much longer—up to 2 years—unlike Profhilo, which typically wears off within a few months due to its pure hyaluronic acid composition.
If you're after instant hydration, skin tightening, and a smoother complexion, Profhilo is the better choice. But if your main concern is severe volume loss and sagging, a bio-stimulator like Sculptra might be more suitable.
Polynucleotide injectables are becoming a go-to choice for those looking to repair and regenerate their skin from the inside out. These injectables work at a cellular level to improve microcirculation and enhance tissue quality, making them especially beneficial for sun-damaged or delicate skin.
While Profhilo is known for its hydration and collagen-boosting benefits, polynucleotides do go a few steps further. Not only are polynucleotides suitable for more delicate areas such as the under-eye area and forehead, but they also actively repair the skin at a cellular level. This makes polynucleotides a more versatile option for full-face rejuvenation and conditions like acne scarring, post-inflammatory pigmentation, or skin that has been weakened by previous treatments.
That said, if you're after an immediate boost in hydration and skin plumping, Profhilo might be the better option for a quick firming effect.
Skin boosters like Sunekos are often compared to Profhilo, as both aim to improve skin hydration and contain two molecular weights of hyaluronic acid. However, they differ in formulation and how they act within the skin.
Profhilo combines two types of hyaluronic acid in one syringe, which spreads evenly under the skin. It gives an overall boost in hydration, firmness, and elasticity, and is suitable for the mid and lower-third of the face.
Sunekos takes a more targeted approach. It separates its hyaluronic acids into two products – Sunekos 200 and Sunekos 1200 – allowing treatments to be tailored to different areas and skin conditions. On top of that, it contains six amino acids that help your skin naturally produce collagen and elastin. It also stimulates fibronectin – a protein that acts like a glue within the skin’s extracellular matrix – which links different types of collagen together to support both structure and repair. Sunekos typically requires 3–4 sessions, with gradual effects that offer long-term improvement.
Unlike Profhilo, Sunekos works in harmony with your body and doesn’t create any stress. This makes it ideal for delicate areas like under the eyes, the forehead, and neck. While Profhilo offers fast, visible results, Sunekos supports deeper, more natural regeneration.
Profhilo is particularly popular among patients in their 30s to 50s who are starting to notice the first signs of aging. However, it can also be a great option for younger individuals looking to maintain their skin and prevent future concerns, as well as older patients who want to improve skin firmness without turning to more invasive treatments.
Profhilo offers a hydrating boost for your skin when it’s facing extreme temperatures – whether it’s the drying chill of winter or the heat of summer. It’s especially helpful after spending time in the sun, whether that’s on a beach holiday or a ski trip (yes, winter sun can be just as harsh!).
Profhilo also works well for those whose skin might be affected by lifestyle factors like smoking or a diet high in sugar or alcohol, helping to rehydrate and strengthen the skin from within.
Profhilo truly stands out as an injectable treatment, sitting perfectly between fillers, bio-stimulators, and skin boosters. It offers hydration, tightening, and collagen stimulation without adding volume or changing your facial features. If you're looking to improve your skin’s overall quality, reduce laxity, and boost elasticity, Profhilo is a highly effective choice with minimal downtime. But as with any treatment, the best approach is a tailored one.
